I think this one was heard on one of Jim Stenson’s fatherhood courses, for young married men.

Outside it is cold and raining heavily.
A family of eleven children are indoors, in the large room that occupies most of the ground floor, playing near the fire to keep warm.

One of them, a young boy, sees his father come in from the cold. His father looks round, and exclaims, «Where is everyone?»
It is then that the boy realises that his mother is not in the room.
To his father, «everyone» is his wife. And that is the way it should be.
