The Commodore's Prayer |
Anecdonet escribió "Here you have one of the most beautiful pieces of Prayer and of Literature. Used on many occasions by Saint Josemaria Escriva.
Read and judge it by yourself...
The Commodore's Prayer Lord you know better than I do that I am growing old, unless you take me up with you. I pray not to become too locuacious a person, and above all, that I don´t acquire the disastrous costume of always giving my oppinions upon any matter and on any question. Free me from the mania of being willing to organise everybody´s affairs; that I may not take a long time to refer countless details about things; give me wings to arrive to the conclusion. Grant me the strength to listen to others when they tell me their sufferings. Help me to bear with patience, if necessary, those stories, more or less sorrowfull. Put a seal on my lips so that I may not go about everywhere lamenting myself of my sorrows and sufferings. Teach me the wonderful lesson that I can also err, many times. That I keep being reasonably pleasent. That I may be reflexive but not abstract; that I cherish desires for serving not for lording it over others.
There are moments when I think that I have a great prudence and it is a pitty I don’t use it in full.
That I may live the most delicate charity with my children and that, up to the end, I may lean only on them.
