Edward Bellamy (26 de marzo de 1850-22 de mayo de 1898) fue un autor estadounidense y socialista, famoso por su novela utópica, El año 2000 (1888). Herbert George Wells (21 de septiembre de 1866 -13 de agosto de 1946 ). Narrador y filósofo político de nacionalidad inglesa. Escritor moderno, de gran capacidad creadora y originalidad temática. Entre sus obras destaca La máquina del tiempo (1895). Hace un siglo que Herbert George Wells escribió Miseria de los zapatos, y Edward Bellamy escribió El Mercado. Curiosamente, dichas obras fueron publicadas, las dos juntas, en una colección que se tituló Se hace camino al andar. El libro folleto más bien se publicó en un tamaño reducido en sus dimensiones; además sólo ocupó cuarenta páginas. Sus pretensiones, confluyentes, sólo eran explicar y mostrar lo que es el socialismo por medio de dos escritos alegóricos. De lo directo y escueto de ambos relatos cabe sacar una conclusión inmediata: el socialismo es sencillo, se explica fácilmente y está en todos los ámbitos de la vida de las personas. (Josu Montalbán)
