LEMNISCATE (CHRIS, VINER) (Poesía)

"Lemniscate" is a poetry collection that tackles the emotional trauma created by a sudden attack. Chris Viner looks at life after living in Paris; they pivot on the attacks of November 2015. They aim to explore questions of loss, love and redemption in a world of conflicting senses of history, religion and morality.??Chris Viner was born in Poole, England in 1987. He recently finished his MSt in Creative Writing at the University of Oxford, where he won the F H Pasby prize in 2015. He has had poems published in several journals, including Ash and Graffiti. He has lived in Bristol, London, Oxford and Paris. Currently he resides in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter.

No me importó desbocarme ante tal desenfreno. Resonó tu advertencia, haciéndose insignificante en mi cabeza. «No juegues con fuego», parecía cada vez más tentador. Pero yo solo quería una cosa: jugar sin importarme las quemaduras por venir. El Hechizo de la Amapola ha logrado traducir algunas experiencias; enamoramientos y desvelos disfrazados de poemas sublimes en los cuales muchos podrían ver reflejadas sus propias historias. A través de relatos, textos y poemas, el libro narra un «era una vez» construido con realidades como también de momentos ficticios, inspirados en un «ojalá». Es un viaje de descubrimientos personales provocados por un amor, de esos que sacuden y revuelcan tu mundo.

EN TIEMPOS DIFÍCILES (COHEN, JEAN-MICHEL) (Poesía)

En tiempos difíciles es un verso de un poema de Heberto Padilla. Al utilizarlo como título de este ensayo, J. M. Cohen procura situar en una época de revolución, sin duda muy ardua para Cuba, esta poesía escrita «con un sentido de urgencia». Analiza también por qué, a pesar de las limitaciones y los obstáculos propios de una fase de transición, «no es una poesía apresurada, pegada a la pared un día y cubierta al siguiente», por qué significa una verdadera contribución a la literatura del mundo hispánico. El autor ha seleccionado sólo veinte poetas, no porque sean los únicos sino porque son los que más le atraen, los que, según él, mejor ilustran el criterio de valor estrictamente literario que desea desarrollar en este estudio. Cohen parte naturalmente del supuesto que la revolución cubana significó un gran estímulo para su literatura. Al desligarse de la influencia del mundo de habla norteamericana y retornar a la comunidad de lengua hispana, Cuba enriqueció sin duda su actividad cultural.
