La dualidad defecto-virtud está presente en todas las personas, y cada uno de nosotros es responsable de mantener su equilibrio. Aquellas imperfecciones que conocemos como defectos (orgullo, placer, envidia, etc.), tienen un lado positivo que, si sabemos reconocer, aceptar, aprovechar, nos dará la oportunidad de crecer. La autora de este libro plantea la hipótesis de que podemos convertir nuestros defectos en recursos, o desdeñarlos como inútiles si así lo deseamos. Sin embargo, advierte que para que un defecto pase a la categoría de recurso, debemos estar dispuestos a buscar dentro de nosotros mismos, si en verdad encierra algún valor. Esta disponibilidad exige desprender de nuestra mente las definiciones negativas que hemos acuñado a través del tiempo, respecto al término defecto, olvidar las actitudes de sospecha y desconfianza aprendidas desde la infancia, y ubicarse en una actitud nueva de comprensión y de aprecio por todo lo que encierra nuestro ser.

Uno de los objetivos a seguir, con este trabajo doctoral , ha sido identificar los problemas de las empresas familiares de forma que se puede colaborar en su desarrollo para que lleguen a ser multigeneracionales y exitosas. Para ello, el estudio se ha iniciado con una génesis de lo que son las empresas familiares, las etapas por las que atraviesan, su cultura íntimamente vinculada a la familia,para ya al final tratar el tema de la sucesión el por qué se aplaza tanto y el por qué no aplazarla y las consecuencias que pueden llevar estas dos situaciones.De igual manera se busca dar unas pautas de comportamiento, o unas formas de actuarmediante el Protocolo Familiar, para llevar el tema de la Planificación de la Sucesión a buen puerto.
