És el mateix Shakespeare el que llegim en anglès que el que llegim en català? Fins a quin punt les traduccions d'un autor tan cabdal marquen tendències en els escriptors i els dramaturgs nacionals? Quan es va començar a tenir Shakespeare com a la figuramés important de les lletres i el teatre universals? Com és que Catalunya és una de les cultures amb més devoció per Shakespeare? En aquest llibre, Helena Buffery -especialista en estudis hispànics i actualment professora de la Universitat de Cork-ens explica la història de la traducció i la recepció de Shakespeare a Catalunya, analitza el viatge de les obres de l'autor des de la seva Anglaterra nadiua cap al català i estudia la influència que va exercir en la regeneració cultural catalana del segle XIX i el seu paper en la cultura catalana contemporània. Amb una sensibilitat remarcable, Buffery ressegueix l'impacte de les traduccions i l'imaginari de Shakespeare a Catalunya a través de les paraules dels principals escriptors en la que es considera "la llengua més shakespeariana del món".
