Un gran incendi trenca la monotonia de la Colònia. Els magatzems cremen pels quatre costats. El fum ho empudega tot. La sirena sona sense parar, tothom és al carrer. La lluita per salvar la fàbrica és desesperada. Per fi una veu crida: ja no hi queda ningú! Es dóna per apagat el foc, i amos i treballadors van a l'església en acció de gràcies. Realment no hi quedava ningú? Atrapat, atrapat queda el lector fins a l'última pàgina d'aquesta novel·la, punyent com la vida dels seus protagonistes, amb un final sorprenent i sense concessions. Olor de Colònia evoca la vida d'una colònia tèxtil i les enverinades relacions socials, la combinació de despotisme i condescendència que, cap als anys cinquanta, regeix la seva vida. Néixer, viure, reproduir-se i morir entre les parets d'una fàbrica. Una gran fàbrica que va més enllà dels llocs de treball, que és també l'escola per als fills, l'església, les botigues i les cases per viure-hi. Sílvia Alcàntara i Ribolleda va néixer a Puig-Reig (El Berguedà) el 1944. A mitjans dels anys seixanta es trasllada a Terrassa, on viu actualment. El 2009, irromp en el panorama literari català amb la publicació d'Olor de Colònia, un èxit esclatant de crítica i públic amb una dotzena d'edicions. El 2012 se'n va gravar una minisèrie per a la Televisió de Catalunya. El 2011 publica La casa cantonera, i el 2017, Els dies sense glòria, totes dues a Edicions de 1984.

It describes the life changes and fighting spirit of a man called Yingfu Lu throughout 80 years of his life. He struggles between happiness and sadness, hope and desperation.
