La cançó de l'estiu és una àgil i llegidora tragicomèdia existencialista que narra el viatge al Marroc de Patatín, un barceloní obsessiu que voreja els quaranta i s'ha conformat amb una vida professional poc ambiciosa en la qual encadena apàticament baixes per depressió. Plena d'enginy i sentit d'humor negra, La cançó de l'estiu explora la ràbia i la desperació pop i sexual del protagonista, que viatja amb una colla que no és del seu gust, i ens aboca de nou a un món iconoclasta sense paradisos perduts ni terres promeses. Reprenent la prosa sintètica i la ironia a moments dolorosa d'El dia del client, Dani O'Hara es confirma com una de les veus narradores més originals i contagioses de la nostra narrativa contemporània.

S'acosta la mitjanit en un restaurant desangelat que obre tota la nit; la Mari beu un cafè a poc a poc i llegeix una novel·la. Només interromp la lectura per veure com un jove s'asseu a la seva taula: és en Takahashi, un amic de la seva germana que toca en un grup de jazz i l'ha reconeguda. Tots dos han perdut l'últim tren i han de passar la nit fora de casa: en Takahashi assajarà fins que surti el sol, i a la Mari ja li està bé seure al bar, llegir, fumar i beure cafè fins que surti el primer tren del matí. A casa, la germana de la Mari, l'Eri, dorm profundament des de fa dos mesos, talment una bella dorment. L'acció transcorre en un espai geogràfic imaginari que presenta moltes similituds amb la Costa Brava, entre el cap de Begur i el cap Roig. En Tomeu hi ha trobat el paradís per a la seva vellesa; l'Aurora, un nou amor: en Roberto, que li alleugerirà la càrrega d'en Pol, el seu fill adolescent; l'Andrius, un refugi per al seu esperit trasbalsat; en Nil i la Irina, l'aventura i la passió; l'Ona i l'Ignasi, un món per reconstruir; l'Odunsi i la Tammi, la fugida per als seus somnis... Però, tots ells, en aquestes aigües calmes i bondadoses, hi coneixeran la destrucció i la derrota. I aniran a la deriva perquè no hi ha nord possible en un mar desconegut, ferotge i cruel, que sota els efectes del canvi climàtic ha estat el causant de la catàstrofe a pobles costaners i platges, i ha sotraguejat els seus petits universos. Només els queda intentar començar de nou mentre l'ombra de Proteu se'ls mira. Núria Ribalta va néixer a Granollers l'any 1951 i viu a Canovelles. Llicenciada en Geografia i Història a la Universitat de Barcelona, i en Filologia Catalana a la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, ha estat professora de llengua i literatura catalanes a l'ensenyament secundari. Ara es dedica a la literatura. La seva primera novel·la, Bitllet de tornada, va guanyar el Premi de Narrativa Consell Comarcal d'Òmnium Cultural de Granollers el 2006.
