Carlos es una persona anodina cuya vida no merecería ser explicada en una novela. Casado y padre de una hija adolescente, sus días grises se reparten entre el trabajo administrativo que desempeña en una oficina y sus compromisos familiares. A ambas responsabilidades se entrega con una apatía que se ve alterada el día que una compañera de trabajo le introduce, de forma involuntaria, en los entresijos de una red social en la que los usuarios comparten su vida con el mundo. Lo que comienza como una curiosidad, se transforma para Carlos en una obsesión que le mantendrá ocupado cada vez más horas. Visitar los perfiles de gente que no conoce se convierte en una necesidad que acabará abocando en una entrega personal que le hará replantearse quién es y hasta qué punto ha estado viviendo inmerso en una mentira. Desde la primera página asistimos, intercalándose con el devenir de Carlos, a la vida, narrada en primera persona, de un chico soñador de dieciocho años que acaba de cumplir el primer aniversario de relación con su pareja.
