Historia

L’any 2010 es compliren sis-cents anys de la mort del rei Martí l’Humà, que fou el darrer rei de la dinastia de Barcelona (1396-1410). Fou un rei assenyat que va tornar a lligar Sicília a la Corona catalanoaragonesa a través del matrimoni del seu fill amb Maria de Sicília i va endegar una expedició a Sardenya que a la llarga permeté el domini total de l’illa. Malgrat tot, els darrers anys de la seva vida li mancaren forces per pacificar la lluita de bàndols a València i a Aragó. El gran error d’aquest monarca fou no haver nomenat cap successor en morir el seu fill, l’únic hereu legítim, fet que comportà una crisi institucional i la final entronització d’una dinastia castellana. Per commemorar-ho, la Secció Històrico-Arqueològica, en col·laboració amb el Consell Superior d’Investigacions Científiques, va organitzar un congrés internacional celebrat a la seu de l’Institut d’Estudis Catalans, entre el 31 de maig i el 4 de juny de 2010, just sis segles després, ja que precisament el 31 de maig de 1410 havia mort el rei Martí. Aquesta publicació és un recull d’articles de diversos especialistes organitzat en vuit blocs temàtics que analitzen diferents aspectes del regnat del rei Martí i la problemàtica de la seva successió. S’hi tracten, doncs, el govern dels diferents regnes de la Corona, el patrimoni reial, la consolidació del poder a la Mediterrània, la política internacional, la societat i l’economia, la cultura i l’art, la família del rei i per últim l’Interregne i el Compromís de Casp.

La programació acadèmica del Consorci Universitat Internacional Menéndez Pelayo Barcelona (CUIMPB) – Centre Ernest Lluch va dedicar tres dels seus cursos de tardor de l’any 2013 als actes de commemoració del centenari de la Mancomunitat de Catalunya. Cadascun dels tres cursos va tractar un dels diferents aspectes de l’activitat d’aquesta institució: el marc jurídic, l’acció econòmica i les polítiques socials. Historiadors i experts en aquestes matèries van analitzar i debatre la importància de la Mancomunitat per al desenvolupament de la Catalunya del segle XX, i la seva inluència en les estructures d’autogovern actuals. En el present volum queden recollits els textos sobre el "Marc jurídic" que va encetar la instauració de la Mancomunitat catalana.
