Este manual está especialmente orientado como libro de texto en la asignatura Estadística. Con este propósito se pretende proporcionar al estudiante un elemento útil y eficaz de ayuda, apoyo y consulta para la comprensión de los distintos temas que se imparten en la misma. Para ello se presentan los fundamentos de las herramientas estadísticas de manera que se facilite su utilización inteligente conociendo sus posibilidades y limitaciones. Todo ello se ha querido enfocar desde una perspectiva didáctica, buscando la comprensión de los conceptos teóricos a través de diferentes tipos de ejercicios y problemas, que aparecen a lo largo del texto y, de manera particular, en un anexo dedicado a colección de problemas. Por otra parte, se ha procurado también que los enunciados respondan a situaciones reales. El crecimiento de los ordenadores y la facilidad de adquirir y procesar grandes volúmenes de datos en todas las Ciencias ha estimulado el desarrollo y utilización del análisis estadístico en muchas disciplinas. Por tanto, el principal objetivo de este manual se centra en transmitir el conocimiento sobre los pasos y elementos imprescindibles en cualquier investigación empírica cuyo propósito final sea condensar información para que pueda ser transmitida o extrapolar las conclusiones. Otros objetivos de gran importancia son generar una actitud crítica ante cualquier lectura científica y adquirir un lenguaje común. No obstante, nos gustaría recordar lo que tantas veces hemos comprobado quienes tenemos la responsabilidad de enseñar alguna disciplina: no sirve de nada que el alumno se guíe según las pautas de un manual si al mismo tiempo no se siente estimulado a aprender lo que se le quiere enseñar. Así pues, confiamos en contribuir al mejor entendimiento y disfrute de esta asignatura, e incluso a aplicar los métodos estudiados a datos propios, para adquirir la experiencia práctica que permitirá utilizarlos después con éxito en un trabajo profesional.

Este libro va dirigido a todas las personas interesadas en profundizar en la relación existente entre atención a la dependencia y servicios sociales. El Sistema de Atención a la Dependencia se ha configurado como instrumento esencial para mejorar los servicios sociales en nuestro país, respondiendo a la necesidad de atender las situaciones de dependencia y la promoción de la autonomía personal, la calidad de vida y la igualdad de oportunidades. El libro analiza el Sistema para la Autonomía y atención a la Dependencia, así como su desarrollo e integración en los sistemas públicos de protección social, en especial el de servicios sociales. Expone y da cuenta de las situaciones de dependencia y su incidencia social, analiza la aplicación de la Ley de Autonomía y Dependencia, distinguiendo entre principios teórico-normativos, instituciones y procesos. Además, ofrece propuestas para una adecuada formación y cualificación de profesionales y cuidadores en el contexto de la Ley de Autonomía y Dependencia. Así mismo permite conocer el funcionamiento de los programas de acción social de la Unión Europea y su incidencia en la política de los Estados miembros y los desafíos a los que se enfrentan. Del mismo modo, en estas páginas encontrarán un análisis sobre los problemas en la aplicación de dicha Ley.
