Las tres obras que contiene el presente volumen son exponentes de etapas bien diferenciadas de la producción de Henrik Ibsen (Noruega, 1828-1906). En efecto, si ''Peer Gynt'' insinúa un cambio de rumbo con respecto al romanticismo, es todavía en algún sentido deudor de éste; en cambio, El pato salvaje pertenece al momento en el cual el autor lleva a la perfección su concepción del drama moderno realista. Finalmente, Hedda Gabler es un ejemplo de la ampliación y una complejización de la poética del drama moderno hacia nuevos horizontes que incluyen procedimientos del simbolismo y el expresionismo. Estas tres obras representan así una acabada muestra del talento de Henrik Ibsen, quien influyera decisivamente en todas las formas teatrales del siglo XX, desde Arthur Miller, Jean-Paul Sartre y Samuel Beckett hasta Antonio Buero y Roberto Cossa. La traducción directa del noruego ha sido realizada por Rosamaría Paasche, especialista en literaturas nórdicas. La introducción y las notas son del Dr. al Dr. Jorge Dubatti, profesor de Historia y teoría teatral en la Universidad de Buenos Aires, Universidad Nacional de rosario y Universidad Veracruzana (México). Demás, esta edición incluye un apéndice con textos acerca del teatro de Ibsen de Arthur Miller, Stanislavski, Bernard Shaw y Jacinto Benavente, entre otros.
