BIOGRAFÍA DE ÁLVAREZ DE QUINDÓS (1751-1812). ALGUNAS PÁGINAS DE LA HISTORIA DE MI PUEBLO

Ángel Ortiz Córdoba se ha sumergido en la azarosa vida de este personaje que vivió entre 1751 y 1812, años de profundos cambios en la historia de España. El resultado es un relato apasionante, casi novelesco. Como dice su autor: “En esta biografía de Juan Antonio necesariamente me he de referir a la repercusión que produjo en España la Revolución Francesa, introduciendo un deseo de renovación por parte de un sector de su sociedad. Veremos como en Aranjuez, junto a la despreocupación de la Corte ocurre un enfrentamiento, que pudo alcanzar cotas de extrema gravedad, entre los vecinos y algunos soldados walones. El celoso gobernador Trejo aprovechaba estas circunstancias para incriminar a los Oficiales Reales, que formaban su Junta de Gobierno, para deshacerse de ellos, acusándolos de conspiradores contra el Rey. Trejo fue el culpable de la malaventura de la familia Álvarez de Quindós, e indirectamente inductor involuntario, de que éste pudiera escribir su, ahora, bicentenaria Historia descriptiva……”.

PABLO MIAJA. UNA ESCUELA PARA LA ARMONÍA SOCIAL

Se propone este libro recuperar la figura del maestro ovetense Pablo Miaja (Oviedo, 1876-1957) partiendo de sus propios textos y de testimonios contemporáneos. Miaja procuró denodadamente concienciar a sus conciudadanos sobre la necesidad de extender la escolarización y conseguir una escuela compensatoria de las desigualdades. Entendía la acción educativa como instrumento moderador en las relaciones sociales y, en su concepto de escuela única, proponía que la infancia de las diferentes extracciones hallara su espacio de convivencia en la escuela nacional. Innovador en el aula, promovió el excursionismo y la lectura como instrumentos didácticos que también recomendaba, en pro de una vida sana, para la edad adulta. Influido por los postulados de la Institución Libre de Enseñanza, Miaja propugnaba también el respeto a la conciencia del niño (escuela laica), pero cultivadora de la virtud y solidaria mediante el respeto y amor al prójimo. En el orden de sus objetivos educativos, defendió que la instrucción debía subordinarse a la adquisición de valores morales: amor al bien, a la justicia, a la equidad, el traba
