El libro se completa con una sección de Referencia inmejorable: una Cronología de descubrimientos e hitos históricos; una selección de los personajes que más han contribuido, desde los primeros tiempos hasta hoy, al conocimiento actual del Universo (físicos, matemáticos, ingenieros, radiólogos, astrónomos, astronautas, etc.); un Glosario de términos y un Índice alfabético con todos los nombres, de personas, objetos y conceptos, tratados en la obra. Muy visual (más de 1.000 ilustraciones -fotografías, dibujos, gráficos, etc.-), con una maqueta muy ágil que desarrolla los temas a doble página de forma muy lógica, enteramente explicativo, con un lenguaje muy sencillo y directo. Muchas ilustraciones son impresionantes, prácticamente inéditas para el público. En un principio la obra está concebida para un público infantil y juvenil por el tono empleado en los elementos editoriales y técnicos (externos e internos), pero la carencia de una publicidad bibliográfica tradicional sobre la materia hace que esta obra sea incluso más obligatoria para el público adulto, por el evidente compromiso sobre el conocimiento que debe adquirir ante un público más joven.
