Han pasado ya años desde que los historiadores serios miraban con sospecha a quien se atrevía a introducirse en el terreno audiovisual. En la actualidad el cine es una nueva forma no sólo de enseñar sino también de investigar la historia. Este volumen contiene aportaciones sobre las dos guerras mundiales. En la compleja y trágica historia del siglo XX, pocos acontecimientos históricos han marcado más el desarrollo histórico y la conciencia social de la humanidad que estas dos guerras. El cine no podía ser ajeno a estos hechos y de ahí el sinfín de películas, documentales y argumentales producidos en torno a estas guerras.

Rodrigo de Mendoza encaja perfectamente con la personalidad díscola de otros nobles que vivieron en el quicio de los siglos xv y xvi, pues no se plegó con facilidad a las directrices emanadas de la corte, lo que le deparó la reprobación tanto de Isabel y Fernando como de su nieto Carlos I. Verdaderamente, hizo lo que quiso siempre y en todo momento allá donde estuviere, por lo que no llegó a ostentar ninguna responsabilidad política ni, menos todavía, diplomática si exceptuamos su participación militar en la guerra de Granada, sus capitanías en la I guerra de Nápoles y en las Germanías, conflicto en el que llegó a ejercer interinamente de gobernador subrogado a pesar del malestar y las reticencias que generaba en el emperador. El I marqués del Cenete acabó convirtiéndose en la personificación del caballero indomable, de carácter fuerte e incluso violento; pero, al mismo tiempo, del noble formado en la corte, con un gusto refinado para el arte, coleccionista insaciable que llegó a poseer una distinguida biblioteca solo superada por su primogénita Mencía.
