Tratamos un período poco estudiado de esta zona: los últimos años nazaríes, conquista, castellanización y rebelión de los moriscos. Un análisis de las transformaciones derivadas de la expulsión de los vencidos y el repartimiento de sus tierras a los castellanos. Con su exilio se inicia un relanzamiento de la economía y una sangría territorial originada por las mercedes a tres cortesanos en Benahavís, Istán y Ojén cuyas dispputas con Marbella marcan la etapa morisca hasta la rebelión de 1569.

Dentro de la tarea emprendida por sus autores de recuperación de las fuentes esenciales del proceso de incorporación del reino de Granada a la Corona de Castilla, la edición y estudio de este Cedulario resulta fundamental, toda vez que es el único registro de esta naturaleza dedicado en exclusiva al reino por la Cancillería regia. La importancia se acentúa si se considera las fechas que abarca, pues en ellas se asiste a una profunda reorganización de todos los aspectos de gobierno, singularmente los relativos a la defensa, a los moriscos y a los aspectos fiscales.
