Este libro es fruto de la investigación que realiza en la Universidad de Valladolid el grupo Agua espacio y socoedad en la Edad Media (http://www3.uva.es), una de cuyas líneas prioritarias es el estudio del agua en los núcleos urbanos medievales. Para su elaboración se ha contado con la colaboración de especialistas en la materia de otras universidades, tanto en el mundo musulmán como en el feudal.La obra estudia el agua tomando en consideración ambas culturas hispánicas medievales, las singularidades de una y otra en materia hídrica y las transferencias de conocimientos y recursos entre ellas. La estructura del libro responde a este planteamiento, por lo que los estudios de cada uno de los autores se han agrupado en tres capítulos (el agua en el mundo musulmán, Un trasvase entre dos culturas, el agua en la sociedad feudal), precedidos por un trabajo introductorio en el que se ponde de manifiesto la riqueza de la herencia patrimonial de carácter hidráulico, tanto desde el punto de vista de la cultura material como de la inmaterial.De esta forma, la obra ofrece un amplio panorama sobre la herencia medieval en materia hídrica, de su importancia a lo largo de los siglos medievales y de los trasvases y préstamos de una cultura a otra en una y otra sociedad.
