Este libro homenaje está dedicado a estudiar la vida y la obra de Manuel Tuñón de Lara, profesor de Historia y Literatura Españolas de la Universidad de Pau (1965-1981) y catedrático de Historia Contemporánea de la Universidad del País Vasco (1983-1991). Se trata del historiador que mayor influencia ha ejercido en la historiografía española contemporánea desde los años sesenta hasta la actualidad. Sus numerosos libros, artículos y coloquios han abarcado la España de los siglos XIX y XX en su pluralidad y complejidad. Los compiladores del libro se han aproximado a su biografía elaborando su cronología y bibliografía. Destacados especialistas analizan sus aportaciones a diversos sectores y períodos de la Edad Contemporánea y escriben semblanzas de su figura. El volumen se completa con una selección de textos recientes del propio Tuñón de Lara.

El llibre Alzira, l’illa del Xúquer és una invitació a descobrir la capital històrica i a guaitar a la comarca formada pel Xúquer i els contraforts de la serra de Corbera. Concebut pels seus autors com un itinerari, permet al veí o al visitant acostar-se a la població des de diverses perspectives. Després de recrear-se en l’esplèndid recorregut visual d’un mestre de la fotografia, el lector es delectarà amb les paraules de dos historiadors. El primer, passejant de placetes i valls, pretén entrellaçar, amb el fet fidedigne, mites i llegendes. El segon, de la mà del qual coneixerem el cicle festiu, l’economia i la cultura, aportarà la precisió del cronista i donarà fe dels esdeveniments quotidians. Els poetes islàmics de la ciutat i Blasco Ibáñez seran amfitrions i alhora paradigma de les dues cultures que formen la ciutat: musulmans i cristians.
