Esta obra permitirá conocer mejor en la Argentina a una de las más brillantes ensayistas y críticas culturales de América Latina que ha conseguido mezclar la reflexión estética sobre los lenguajes artísticos con las urgencias de una sostenida crítica a la hegemonía neoliberal, en un cruce de arte y política que se aparta de los estereotipos del análisis literal. La violencia de las dictaduras latinoamericanas forzó nuevas formas de expresión en imágenes y en palabras. Cuando el pensamiento se hizo peligroso fue necesario explorar las grietas y fisuras que permitieran atravesar aquella clausura definitiva de la reflexión crítica a la que aspiraba la censura. En ese marco, la escena artística chilena investigó los lenguajes creativos, quebró sus límites tradicionales, atravesó las prácticas, cruzó la literatura y la sociología con el arte, el video, la performance, la acción urbana. El arte y la escritura se propusieron cuestionar aquel presente de silencios e imposibilidades y analizar la historia en la cual no sólo fue necesario revisar los sentidos dominantes durante la dictadura sino que también fue urgente problematizar los pactos y los acuerdos de la transición democrática. Nelly Richard es central en la gestación y en el ejercicio de una crítica cultural en la que se funden el análisis sociopolítico de estos momentos históricos, las pasiones intelectuales y la vocación de estilo. El pasado y el presente se activan a partir de la crítica: Nelly Richard lo demuestra con una escritura polémica que se plantea, en sí misma, como práctica creativa. Los ensayos aquí reunidos demuestran que el pensamiento radica en la insatisfacción ante la clausura de la interpretación, en la irrupción (y la disrupción) de una permanente turbulencia del sentido.
