La catedral de Barcelona, exemple paradigmàtic del gòtic català, es construí bàsicament entre els segles xiv i xv. Té una posició privilegiada en el caràcter de la ciutat, tant pel seu valor patrimonial com per l’enorme pes en la història del país i en la fe dels barcelonins. Les tres grans naus, envoltades de capelles allotjades entre els contraforts, exhibeixen la colpidora verticalitat de l’estil gòtic, traduïda a l’exterior a la façana i als pinacles.
