Década de los cuarenta Acabado yo el Bachillerato nos vinimos a vivir a Abertura. Los ingresos familiares no daban para vivir en la ciudad. En el pueblo los gastos se reducían a una cuarta parte por ser la vida menos costosa, más sobria y más sencilla; se vivía con lo que se tenía. Año de 1942, me incorporé al ejército en mayo de este año con todos los mozos de mi remplazo. Tuve la buena o mala suerte de quedarme en Cáceres. Tres años y cuatro meses estuve movilizado en el ejército perdiendo un tiempo precioso que me hubiera servido para terminar mi carrera de tres años antes y hacer algo más práctico que servir a la Patria. La Patria nunca me ha agradecido ni pagado el sacrificio y el tiempo perdido, pero estaba contento, porque otros perdieron más, como el pobre Pepe Rejas. Año de 1945. Septiembre. Me licencio del ejército y empiezo a estudiar Magisterio.
