RAMÓN Y CAJAL: VIDA Y MILAGROS DE UN SABIO (JUARROS, CÉSAR)

Con ser la obra de Ramón y Cajal cúspide de la labor científica española su vida la supera en interés. La existencia de Cajal justifica por sí sola muchos libros como el presente. El lector podrá asomarse a la infancia de Cajal y descubrir a un niño con recio amor propio, de espíritu romántico, y profundo miedo al ridículo. Su adolescencia estuvo marcada por la obligación, por parte de su padre, de ir a estudiar a Jaca, a un colegio de Escolapios, para neutralizar la atmósfera sentimental en la que se iban aliñando sus vocaciones, contrarias al estudio de la Medicina y al culto del latín. Las desavenencias paternofiliales fueron disipándose a medida que don Justo, padre de Santiago, fue iniciando a su hijo en los estudios anatómicos. Con ello vino a resultar que Cajal supo anatomía antes de frecuentar las aulas. El propio Santiago escribió: "Bien miradas las cosas, mi fervor anatómico constituía una de tantas manifestaciones de mis tendencias. Para mi idiosincrasia artística, la osteología constituía un tema pictórico más".
