Jaume Ferran ha tingut una llarga trajectòria poètica, emmarcada dins de la generació dels anys 50, amb una colla de llibres de versos escrits en castellà. De fet, no va ser fins al 2001, gairebé cinquanta anys després de l'aparició del seu primer llibre, que es va estrenar com a escriptor també en català; i ho va fer amb un relat autobiogràfic titulat Memòries de Ponent (Premi Gaziel de Biografies i Memòries, 2000). En aquell volum, l'autor repassava la seva infantesa a Cervera i la seva vida d'estudiant a Barcelona, el trasllat a Madrid als primers anys 50 i, després, la seva llarga experiència americana.
