L?estiu del 1951, la Brigada Politicosocial de la policia va detenir Gregorio López Raimundo i trenta-nou persones més, i els va instruir la causa ordinària 555-IV-51 per ?actividades comunistas clandestinas?. Les detencions (fruit en darrer terme de la descoberta casual, a Madrid, d?una carta en poder d?un estraperlista) van desarticular l?estructura clandestina del PSUC a Barcelona, que aquell mateix any havia intervingut en l?organització del boicot als tramvies i en la convocatòria d?una vaga general obrera. La notícia de les detencions va generar una forta pressió internacional a favor dels detinguts i en contra de la dictadura franquista. Fruit d?aquesta pressió, quan finalment es va celebrar el judici, el 2 de juliol del 1952 (en presència de juristes estrangers i d?autoritats consulars en qualitat d?observadors), el fiscal va demanar unes penes de només quinze anys de presó per als principals encausats. Finalment, els condemnats es van beneficiar d?un indult decretat per Franco.En aquest volum, el doctor Antoni Lardín Oliver presenta per primer cop la transcripció de les parts fonamentals del sumari de la causa ordinària 555-IV-51. Aquesta edició no constitueix solament un document de valor històric i testimonial, sinó que vol ser un homenatge a totes les persones que van comprometre la seva llibertat i fins i tot la seva vida en la lluita per una societat més lliure i més justa.
