Leonhard Euler (1707-1783) no es sólo el matemático más importante de su tiempo. Por la extraordinaria amplitud de sus conocimientos está considerado como uno de los grandes genios científicos de los últimos siglos. Las Lettres à une princesse d’Allemagne, publicadas por vez primera en 1768-1772, alcanzaron en toda Europa un éxito sin precedentes. La obra trata con estilo claro, preciso y didáctico las más diversas cuestiones de Física y Filosofía, y proporciona una visión panorámica de la ciencia europea del XVIII. Carlos Mínguez ha llevado a cabo la traducción a partir de la edición crítica de las Leonhardi Euleri Opera Omnia, basada a su vez en la editio princeps de 1768-72. El presente libro incluye el Elogio de Euler pronunciado por Condorcet en 1783 e incorpora buena parte de las notas que añadió Juan López de Peñalver en su versión resumida de 1798.
