EL PENSAMIENTO CAUTIVO DE RAFAEL BARRETT . CRISIS DE FIN DE SIGLO, JUVENTUD DEL 98 Y ANARQUISMO (CORRAL SÁNCHEZ-CABEZUDO, FRANCISCO)

Ha sido Rafael Barrett (Torrelavega, 1876-Arcachon, 1910) un escritor subterráneo. Su interesante obra, poco difundida, ha ejercido una callada influencia en la producción intelectual latinoamericana. Hay dos motivos esenciales de interés en la obra de Rafael Barrett. El primero es la calidad de sus escritos, la penetración crítica de sus reflexiones, la belleza y precisión de su estilo. El segundo es la circunstancia en la que se produce, y concretamente su relación con la llamada “Crisis de Fin de Siglo”, de la que el pensamiento de Barrett es un exponente tan privilegiado como poco conocido. En Barrett afloran asimismo algunos de los rasgos más innovadores de la más tarde llamada Generación del 98. Para la literatura latinoamericana Rafael Barrett representa el eficaz precedente de un realismo crítico en el que denuncia social y vanguardismo literario se conjugan y enriquecen.
