JAUME NUNÓ. UN SANJUANENSE EN AMÉRICA (CANTON FERRER, CRISTIAN / TOVAR ABAD, RAQUEL)

Primera biografia completa del compositor Jaume Nunó (1824-1908), autor de l'him ne nacional de Mèxic, summament apreciat i admirat en aquest país, però escassam ent conegut a la seva Catalunya natal. La troballa pràcticament fortuïta d'un ar xiu familiar dels afores de Nova York ha permès a Cristian Canton i Raquel Tovar recuperar aquesta interessant figura de la història de la música. Coincidint am b l'any del bicentenari de la independència mexicana, Casa Amèrica Catalunya pub lica aquesta obra en col·laboració amb l'Ajuntament de Sant Joan de les Abadesse s i el Consolat General de Mèxic a Barcelona.

Pianista con duende suficiente como para embelesar a Liszt y a Fauré, su maestro, Misia, por su sensibilidad artística y su sutilísima capacidad catalizadora, fue una de las personas que más contribuyó a establecer los gustos de un amplio sector del mundo del arte, de la música, de la danza y de la literatura en el París de antes y después de la primera guerra mundial. Ocupan su caudalosa existencia personajes como Mallarmé, Proust, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Diaghilev, Stravinski, Coco Chanel, Picasso y tantos otros, quienes, de hecho, conformaron el espíritu de nuestro siglo.Esta autobiografía, publicada póstumamente en Francia con enorme éxito de público en 1952, fue concebida al inicio como una larga y desesperada carta al gran pintor español José M.ª Sert su tercer marido y único perdido amor, y ha sido hoy «revisitada» para nosotros por un sobrino nieto de éste, Francisco Sert.

Toklas alcanzó un enorme éxito de público saltando en poco tiempo a las listas de best-sellers. En Autobiografía de todo el mundo, Gertrude Stein, célebre ya, narra los cinco años siguientes de su vida en Francia, Inglaterra y Estados Unidos y sigue haciendo sus características observaciones, siempre llenas de sarcasmo y sagacidad, sobre los personajes que conoce como Dashiel Hammet, Charlie Chaplin, Picasso, Picabia, etc., y también sobre su propia vida, con sus pequeños problemos cotidianos ? que ella convierte en materia de humorística reflexión -, y sobre su trabajo como escritora y conferenciante.El tema que obsesiona a Gertrude Stein en toda su obra es el que ella resume en una frase hoy conocida de todos: ?una rosa es una rosa es una rosa? o sea, la entidad profunda de las cosas y de los seres sin más atributos que los que están implícitos en la palabra que los designa. A nadie extraña ya hoy en día que haya sido una mujer la que, en nuestro siglo, haya planteado con tanta lucidez, tanto humor y tanta sencillez los enigmas de la identidad relacionados en particular con la creación. No en vano termina este libro diciendo con su acostumbrada sinceridad devastadora: ?Quizás yo no sea yo aunque mi perrito me conozca?...

VICENTE TRAVER TOMÁS. UN ARQUITECTO ENTRE SEVILLA Y CASTELLÓN. (PÉREZ MORALES, JOSÉ CARLOS)

Monografía sobre la etapa sevillana del arquitecto castellonense Vicente Traver Tomás, cuya intensa labor en la capital hispalense entre 1913 y 1933 resultó trascendental para su carrera artística y social y para la configuración urbana de la ciudad de Sevilla. De esta etapa destaca la participación de Traver en la Exposición Iberoamericana de 1929 y 1930, cuya dirección arquitectónica asumió en enero de 1927. José Carlos Pérez Morales, investigador de la Universidad de Sevilla, realiza un riguroso trabajo sobre las aportaciones de Traver a la Exposición Iberoamericana a partir de la bibliografía existente y, sobre todo, de numerosa información que hasta el momento permanecía inédita en diferentes archivos. Con todo ello el autor analiza las aportaciones artísticas y urbanísticas de uno de los más prestigiosos arquitectos españoles del siglo XX sin pasar por alto los rasgos más característicos de su personalidad.
