Como en los mejores melodramas folletinescos, en la vida de Rita Hayworth, la legendaria «diosa del amor», estrella inolvidable de míticas películas como Gilda, La dama de Shangai y Sangre y arena, hubo de todo : pobreza, soledad, riqueza, fama, sonados amores (David Niven y Howard Huges entre otros), cinco tormentosos matrimonios (entre ellos, con Orson Welles y el príncipe Ali Khan, padre de su hija Yasmin), toda suerte de accidentados episodios producidos por su adicción al alcohol y, para colmo, la terrible enfermedad de Alzheimer que la llevó a la muerte en 1987, sin que la cegadora luz de las candilejas jamás consiguiera borrar del alma de la atormentada Rita el recuerdo de la pequeña Margarita Cansino, hija de un bailarín de origen español quien la obligó, aún adolescente, a formar pareja con él en los más sórdidos escenarios. No es de extrañar que Orson Welles le comentara un día a la autora de esta biografía acerca de su matrimonio con Rita : «Si aquellofue felicidad?¡imagine lo que habrá sido el resto !»

POMPEU FABRA: UN EXEMPLE INFRANGIBLE DE LLEIALTAT NACIONAL
[El dia 11 de setembre de 2018, l'Institut d'Estudis Catalans va obrir, un any més, les portes de la seva seu de la Casa de Convalescència per commemorar la Diada Nacional de Catalunya. El president de l'IEC, Joandomènec Ros, va encetar la commemoració amb un parlament breu i va donar la paraula al conseller d'Ensenyament de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Josep Bargalló. Joan Martí i Castell, membre de l'IEC i catedràtic emèrit de la Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona), va pronunciar el discurs patriòtic «Pompeu Fabra: un exemple infrangible de lleialtat nacional». A continuació, el violoncel·lista Marçal Ayats va participar en l'homenatge a la trobada, del 1939, entre Pompeu Fabra i Pau Casals a Prada, amb la interpretació d'El cant dels ocells, cançó tradicional catalana popularitzada fora de Catalunya per Pau Casals, que va començar a interpretar-la amb violoncel en els seus concerts des de l'exili; la Suite per a violoncel sol núm. 3, de Johann Sebastian Bach, i el cant d'Els segadors. Durant l'acte es va fer una ofrena simbòlica a Rafael Casanova, darrer conseller en cap del setge de Barcelona el 1714 i, coincidint amb la celebració de l'Any Pompeu Fabra 2018, es pogueren visitar les exposicions «Pompeu Fabra i l'Institut d'Estudis Catalans», produïda per l'IEC, i «Pompeu Fabra. Una llengua completa», cedida per la Direcció General de Política Lingüística de la Generalitat de Catalunya. RAFAEL PATXOT I JUBERT
Aquest llibre ens mena, de la mà de la seva néta, en la personalitat de Rafael Patxot, un home duna intel·ligència visionària, acompanyada de la generositat del sentiment per una terra que va estimar amb passió. Patxot, científic, intel·lectual, humanista, home de gran cultura, catalanista, exiliat el 1936 per salvar la vida i expatriat voluntàriament el 1939 per no ser súbdit del franquisme, fou un dels dos més grans mecenes culturals i socials del primer terç del segle XX. Lautora del llibre el descriu com «tot duna peça, muntanya granítica, presenta dos vessants: el científic, amb una precisió exigent i extrema, i el romàntic, amb intuïcions creatives i sensibilitat lluminosa». Amb aquesta obra (traducció de loriginal en francès, de lany 2008) podem copsar, el valor de les seves grans actuacions (lObra del Cançoner Popular de Catalunya, lEstudi de la Masia Catalana, les beques per a noies universitàries, les diverses fundacions i concursos, etc.) que ell va dur a terme, mentre que la seva vida era un seguit de contratemps (morts prematures de la mare, del pare, de les filles, perill dafusellament, primer i depuració tres anys més tard...). La visió que dell ens va acompanyant al llarg de tot el text, rigorosa i gairebé exhaustiva, no pot deixar destar impregnada per la relació que lautora, la seva néta, va tenir amb Patxot.
